Description
The DZOFILM VESPID Prime 16mm T2.8 is the wide end of DZOFILM's full-frame VESPID line, built for filmmakers who want cinema-grade optics in a small, manageable package. It covers full-frame and large-format sensors while staying light enough for gimbal, drone and handheld work, which makes it a practical choice when a heavier PL prime would slow you down.
The 16mm focal length is your go-to for establishing shots, tight interiors, architecture and landscape work, anywhere you need to take in more of the scene without distortion getting in the way. The optical design keeps distortion well controlled and colour neutral, with soft, natural skin tones that cut in cleanly against other lenses in the VESPID set.
The 16-blade iris gives round, pleasing bokeh, and the low focus breathing keeps focus pulls looking intentional rather than distracting. Cine-standard 0.8 MOD gears and a 270° focus throw mean it drops straight into a follow-focus and matte-box rig without fuss.
As a PL-mount lens, it pairs naturally with cine bodies like the ARRI Alexa Mini and RED, and with full-frame cameras via a PL adapter. It's also part of a matched set, so if you need a spread of focal lengths that hold a consistent look, the wider PL-mount lenses range covers the rest of the VESPID primes and other cine glass. Hire includes the lens with front and rear caps. Request a quote to build your kit list.
FAQs
What cameras does the VESPID 16mm work with? It's a PL-mount lens, so it fits PL-mount cinema cameras natively, and full-frame or Super 35 bodies through a PL adapter. Its 46.5mm image circle covers sensors up to full-frame without vignetting, so it works across a wide range of modern cine cameras.
Is the DZOFILM VESPID 16mm a full-frame lens? Yes. It covers full-frame and large-format sensors with a 46.5mm image circle, and it works equally well on Super 35 cameras. That makes it a flexible choice whether you're shooting on a full-frame or crop-sensor body.
What's included with the hire? The hire includes the DZOFILM VESPID Prime 16mm T2.8 lens, a front lens cap and a rear lens cap. Matte boxes, filters and follow-focus units are separate line items, so let us know your rig and we'll put together the full kit.
Is it a good lens for gimbal and handheld work? Yes. At around 0.8kg it's light for a full-frame cine prime, which makes it well suited to gimbal, drone and run-and-gun handheld shooting where weight matters. The compact size keeps your rig balanced without giving up the cinema look.
Can I hire other matching focal lengths? Yes. The VESPID 16mm is part of a matched full-frame prime set, so you can hire wider and longer focal lengths that share the same colour and character. Ask us and we'll help you spec a consistent set across your shoot.
