Description
The Vaxis Storm 1000S provides reliable wireless video transmission for professional productions where directors, clients, or crew need to monitor camera feeds without cable runs. The system transmits visually lossless HD video with less than 1 millisecond latency, making it suitable for critical focus pulling, director monitoring, and client playback where any delay would be problematic. We've supplied this system for everything from multi-camera studio productions to location shoots where running SDI or HDMI cables between camera and monitoring positions simply isn't practical.
The antenna-free design sets the Storm 1000S apart from older wireless systems with fragile external antennas. Both transmitter and receiver feature built-in antennas that provide up to 350 metre line-of-sight range whilst eliminating the risk of damaged antennas during transport or on busy sets. The transmitter mounts directly to your camera rig and accepts both SDI and HDMI inputs, whilst also providing an SDI loop output for feeding an on-camera monitor simultaneously. The receiver offers two SDI outputs plus one HDMI output, allowing you to feed multiple monitors from a single wireless receiver - perfect for providing feeds to both the director and script supervisor, or client and DIT simultaneously.
The V-mount plate on the receiver means you can power it directly from V-mount batteries for completely wireless monitor setups without mains power. The 20 available channels across the 5.1-5.9GHz frequency band ensure you can find clean transmission even when working alongside other wireless systems, and the multicast capability allows one transmitter to feed up to 10 receivers when you need multiple monitoring positions. Whether you're providing wireless director monitoring on a commercial, client playback on a corporate shoot, or wireless feeds for a multi-camera studio production, the Storm 1000S delivers professional reliability.
FAQs
What's the actual usable range? The Storm 1000S provides up to 350 metres line-of-sight range. In practical use, expect reliable transmission around 100-200 metres depending on obstacles and interference. The system works brilliantly for typical set distances - camera to video village, camera to director's position, or camera to client monitoring area. The LCD displays show real-time signal strength helping you verify solid connection.
What's the latency like for focus pulling? Less than 1 millisecond latency makes the Storm 1000S suitable even for critical focus pulling applications where any delay would cause issues. The transmission is visually lossless, meaning focus pullers can rely on the wireless feed with the same confidence as a wired connection. Many focus pullers use this system for wireless monitoring when working with gimbals or Steadicam where cable runs aren't practical.
Can I use multiple Storm systems simultaneously? Yes, the 20 available channels across the 5.1-5.9GHz frequency range allow multiple Storm systems to operate without interference. The LCD display includes channel scanning functionality to find clean frequencies. This makes it practical for multi-camera productions where each camera needs its own wireless transmission, or when working on locations with other wireless systems operating.
Does the receiver need mains power or can it run on batteries? The receiver features an integrated V-mount battery plate, allowing you to power it directly from V-mount batteries for completely wireless operation. This is particularly valuable for mobile director monitoring positions or when setting up client playback areas without access to mains power. The transmitter can be powered via LEMO connector from your camera's power output or external battery sources.
What inputs and outputs are included? The transmitter features one SDI input, one SDI loop output (for feeding an on-camera monitor), and one HDMI input. The receiver provides two SDI outputs and one HDMI output, allowing you to feed up to three monitors simultaneously from one wireless receiver. This flexibility means you can integrate the system into virtually any camera and monitoring setup.
Can one transmitter feed multiple receivers? Yes, the Storm 1000S supports multicasting to up to 10 receivers. This allows you to feed wireless video from one camera to multiple monitoring positions - director, client, DIT, script supervisor, etc. Each receiver operates independently, so monitors can be positioned wherever needed without cable constraints.
Is this compatible with other Vaxis Storm systems? Yes, the Storm 1000S is compatible with other Storm series models including the 058, 800, 2000, and 5000 systems. Transmitters and receivers can be mixed and matched across the Storm range, providing flexibility to build the wireless system your production requires.
How far in advance should I book? The Storm 1000S is popular for professional productions requiring wireless video monitoring, so we recommend booking as early as possible. Request a quote with your shoot dates and we'll confirm availability.
