The Blazar Remus 33mm T1.8 1.5x is a full-frame anamorphic prime for productions chasing the classic widescreen film look without the weight and cost of a full anamorphic set. The 1.5x squeeze stretches your image into a cinematic widescreen frame, complete with oval bokeh and the horizontal flares that read instantly as anamorphic on screen.

What sets it apart from most anamorphics is the T1.8 aperture. Anamorphic glass is usually slower, so getting a genuinely fast stop here means more usable light and a shallower depth of field than most anamorphic primes offer, useful for low-light interiors or anywhere you want the subject to properly separate from the background.

It is also lighter than most anamorphic glass, which matters if you're rigging for gimbal or handheld work rather than a traditional shoulder or tripod setup. The close focus of 0.49m is the tightest in the Remus range, so it copes with closer coverage than you'd expect from an anamorphic prime.

What does the 1.5x squeeze actually do? It compresses the image horizontally when shooting, so when the footage is desqueezed in post it stretches back out into a wide, cinematic frame with the characteristic oval bokeh and horizontal flares of anamorphic glass. Your workflow needs to account for the desqueeze at the edit and grade stage.

Is this lens full-frame or Super 35? Full-frame. It covers a 36x24mm image circle, so it works on full-frame cine and mirrorless bodies without cropping in, and it will also cover Super 35 sensors.

Why is the fast T1.8 aperture significant? Most anamorphic primes are noticeably slower, so a T1.8 anamorphic gives you more usable light and a shallower depth of field than the format usually allows. That makes it more workable in low light and for shallow-focus dramatic shots than most anamorphic glass.
